The Majlis, The Dining Room, and the Door You Won’t Notice

In a Dubai home, receiving guests is a kind of choreography.
There is the majlis, where visitors are welcomed. The dining room comes next, where the evening continues. And there is the powder room, which has to be beautiful without ever being in the way. This project set out to make all three feel like one unhurried sequence.
The luxury majlis comes first. Deep sofas gather around a low arrangement of coffee tables, and the lighting is layered so the room feels warm at any hour instead of being lit from above. A chandelier gives the ceiling its focal point. The décor is edited down to a few pieces with real presence.
Then there is the sliding door. Closed, it is simply a wall, and the majlis is private and self-contained. Open, it reveals the dining room, so a gathering can move from sofa to table without anyone crossing a hallway. We designed it so that it is seamlessly paired with the rest of the cladding in the room.
The dining room is made for long meals. The table and chairs are sized to each other and to the room, and buffet counters along the walls give hosts somewhere to serve from. The chandeliers here are chosen to speak to the ones in the majlis without repeating them.
The guest powder room follows the same quiet logic as the rooms before it. Natural stone runs through the space, so the room feels carved from one material rather than assembled from parts. A custom lighting plan keeps the glow soft and even, in the same warm register as the majlis and dining room. Step in from either one and the change is barely noticeable, which is exactly the point.
